Setting up Areas, Rooms and Room Types in the Project section will make them available for Users to assign Items and quantities to them.

Areas are typically large spaces.

ie. Floors or Levels.

Rooms are typically Room Names and #’s.

ie. Room 101 - Lobby

Room Types are used primarily for hospitality Projects.

ie. King/King Type 1

Add New Areas

  • Click ‘Areas / Rooms’.
  • Click on ‘Create New Area’.
  • Click in the blank row below ‘Area Name’ and enter in the Name.

    ie. Level 1

  • Click ‘Save’.

Repeat this for as many Areas as needed.

*To the right of Area is an Area Code and Series # field. These only need to be entered IF Control #’s are set up to use them in Administration>Client Types/Specification Types, which is NOT recommended for two reasons.

A. Any other format will not be compatible when passing Items from Revit using SpecBIM.

B. Upholstery or attached items will have to be recreated for each Item instead of using the program’s feature which allows the User to link ONE spec to MULTIPLE Items without having to recreate the Spec Sheet.

ie. LO-CH-1 where LO is the code for Lobby.

  • Click ‘Areas / Rooms’.
  • Click on the ‘Add New Room to this Area’.
  • Click in the blank row below ‘Room Name / #’ and type in the Room Type.

    ie. King Room.

To the right of the Room ID, enter # of Rooms that will be located in that Area.

From the dropdown choose the ‘Room Type’.

  • Click ‘Save’.

*Repeat this for as many ‘Room Name / #’ as needed.

Add New Room Types

Room Types are used to describe Room Names/#’s.

They are OPTIONAL and typically only used in hospitality (hotel) Projects.

By adding Room Types to a Project, users can generate matrix reports based on the Room Type to visualize what Room Names/#’s that Room Types are assigned to.

  • Click ‘Areas / Rooms’.
  • Click the ‘Use Room Types’ checkbox.

*When you have clicked the checkbox, a blue button will appear on the side of the screen. There you can create Room Types.

  • Click ‘Room Types’.
  • Click ‘New Room Type’.
  • In the text window that opens up, type in the Room Type Name. To the right of the Room Type, enter a Room ID to represent the Room Type.

ie. K1 for King Room Type 1

  • Click ‘Save’.
  • Click on ‘Room Types’ to go back to ‘Areas/Rooms’ page.

*Repeat this for as many Room Types as needed.

*Keep the Room Type IDs as short as possible as they will be used as column headers to identify the Room Type in matrix reports.
